2013 Winners Announced!

Novogradac & Company is pleased to announce the inaugural Novogradac Journal of Tax Credits Historic Rehabilitation Awards. The Journal of Tax Credits Historic Rehabilitation Awards were created to recognize excellence and honor outstanding achievement in rehabilitation developments using the historic tax credit (HTC).

Those tax credit projects to be honored will have been placed in service in 2012 or 2013, and:

  • had a meaningful and major impact on their community;
  • demonstrated financial innovation; or
  • overcome significant obstacles in their development.

Categories of Awards

  1. HTC Development that Best Exemplifies Major Community Impact
  2. HTC Development that Overcame Significant Obstacles
  3. HTC Development that Best Demonstrates Financial Innovation

Note: If judges do not choose a winner for any of the three categories, Novogradac & Company LLP reserves the right to name two winners in one of the other categories.

Criteria for Awards

Developments will be judged on the following criteria that apply to the award category.

Has this development:

  • Had a meaningful impact on its community?
  • Distinguished itself in a unique manner?
  • Served as a major catalyst for further community development?
  • Responded to community need(s)?
  • Established measureable benefits and success in meeting that/those needs?
  • Employed the effective use of community resources?
  • Formed effective community partnerships?
  • Achieved its objectives?
  • Instituted the use of innovative strategies in bringing benefits to its community?
  • Demonstrated benefits that outweigh costs.
  • Set up successful strategies that can be repeated?

Deadline for Nomination Submission

Nominations will be accepted until July 19, 2013. Novogradac & Company will attempt to reach the contact person for an incomplete nomination for further information. All submissions must be complete before a nomination will be accepted.

Nominations

Nominations are open to all with knowledge of a deserving development. Developments may be nominated in one of the categories listed above and may be a development with which you were involved or simply one you deem deserving. A nominating entity may enter more than one development, and/or one development in more than one category.

Narrative Statement and Other Requirements

A narrative statement must be included with all applications; narratives should be no more than 2,500 words. This narrative should describe how the development meets one or more of the criteria listed above. At least three supplemental materials (i.e., photos, renderings, architectural plans, marketing information sheets) should also be submitted to document the development’s qualities. Submitted images must be a minimum of 800x600 pixel dimensions, at 300dpi.

All materials for the nomination, including the nomination form, must be uploaded to http://novoco.leapfile.com. The email awards@novoco.com should be designated as the recipient and the name of the nominated project should be stated in the subject line.

Judging

A panel of judges with wide-ranging expertise in the historic tax credit industry will review all entries and judge the developments based on the criteria listed in this announcement. Award winners will be chosen in mid-August 2013.

Awards

Winners and honorable mentions of the Novogradac Journal of Tax Credits Historic Rehabilitation Awards, and their development teams, will be honored in a ceremony at the Novogradac National Historic Tax Credit Conference, Sept. 19-20 in Detroit.

Winners will receive free registration to the Novogradac Historic Tax Credit Conference. Winners and honorable mentions will also be featured in the print and iPad editions of the Novogradac Journal of Tax Credits and in an electronic awards package. They will also be highlighted on the Novogradac & Company website and YouTube channel and recognized in a press release distributed nationally. Winners will also be supplied with a press release for their distribution and 10 copies of the Novogradac Journal of Tax Credits featuring their winning development.
