The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security created a clearinghouse to collect information on housing available for hurricane victims.

FEMA has published a press release and guidance notice regarding its long term plan to house hurricane evacuees.

FEMA declared several major disaster areas related to the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina and continues to declare additional emergency declarations for the surrounding areas and several states in order to supplement their efforts to assist evacuees from areas struck by Hurricane Katrina.

FEMA established a toll-free Hurricane Katrina hotline to accept public contributions of goods and services to assist victims. The hotline, 1-800-440-6728, has been activated and has begun receiving calls from around the nation and the world.
