2017 Non-Metro QLICI Winner Williams Sausage

Williams Sausage is building a new facility in the rural town of Union City, Tenn., for production, a cold storage and dry storage distribution center, truck maintenance shop and corporate offices. The $48 million development will allow Williams to introduce and expand a new breakfast sausage sandwich line and expand into a new market. It is expected to create 210 jobs with health, and retirement benefits in a community that has experienced numerous employers shuttering the local operations since the Great Recession.

The $44.5 million of NMTC allocation provided by five CDEs– Stonehenge Community Development, Chase New Markets Corporation, Community Impact Fund, Empowerment Reinvestment Fund (TruFund) and Pacesetter CDE–will finance the new construction, equipment and working capital need of the project.

“This is clearly a very important job creator in highly distressed community,” said Matthew Philpott, a Community Development QLICI of the Year Awards judge. “The innovative production process puts environmental sustainability at forefront in its operations and there are a high proportion of accessible jobs with quality wages and benefits.”
