The Pullman Community Center NFP in Chicago is a 135,000-square-foot community center that provides innovative recreational and community services. Local stakeholders knew that a project of this size was going to rely on multiple forms of funding and the Pullman Community Center NFP was made possible by more than $16 million in qualified low-income community investments from Citibank, National Community Investment Fund and U.S. Bank Community Development Entity.
The community center features year-round organized indoor sports play and community programming for local youth. It has the capacity to host an estimated 50,000 participants, spectators and visitors annually. There are three full-sized indoor sports fields, basketball courts and multiple rooms for mentoring, tutoring, SAT/ACT prep, and computer-based learning. In addition, there is a common space for community gatherings.
The Pullman Community Center has partnered with the Chicago Park District and local nonprofit the Roseland Youth Center to operate these services.
“[This has] significant impact for low-income residents of south side of Chicago,” said DiPietro.
