2020 Non-Residential Development that Best Exemplifies Major Community Impact
2700 Bohn Motor
Developer: Gulf Coast Housing Partnership
Location: New Orleans, LA
The historic Bohn Motor Co., building was transformed into 2700 Bohn Motor, a federally qualified health center anchored by Odyssey House Louisiana–a behavioral health and substance abuse treatment provider. The development increased Odyssey House Louisiana’s ability to provide behavioral health and substance abuse treatment critical to fighting the current battle against opioid addiction.
Bohn Motor Co. was built in 1923 as a car dealership and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a rare surviving example of a pre-Depression era automobile dealership. The building was neglected and suffered significant damage from a fire as well as Hurricane Katrina in 2005. When the 2700 Bohn Motor was completed in 2019, it brought 45 jobs to the area.
“It’s such an honor for the entire project team to be recognized by Novogradac with this award for our 2700 Bohn Motor venture,” said Kathy Laborde, president and CEO of Gulf Coast Housing Partnership Inc., the developer for 2700 Bohn Motor. “Utilizing both historic and new markets tax credits, we transformed a deteriorated automobile dealership into a much-needed expansion for Odyssey House Louisiana and furthered GCHP’s mission to provide improved quality of life through real estate development in our community.”
