Developer The Sherbert Group rehabilitated the former powerhouse structure into a property that includes 37 apartments, an on-site brewery, a food hall with six restaurants, an indoor/outdoor bar and events spaces. The renovation required extensive demolition and remediation efforts on six large boilers, as well as several other major efforts. Under recommendation from the National Park Service, the developers also created a four-story atrium to maintain the visual imagery of the building’s interior. The Sherbert Group received more than $10 million in federal and state historic tax credits and state textile mill credits for The Powerhouse at University Center.
