2024 QLICI Awards - Non-Metro - winnerResidents on the Lac Courte Oreilles tribal reservation in Hayward, Wisconsin, faced yearslong waits for treatment for health conditions that particularly impact the Native American community. In 2023, for instance, there was a six-month wait for urgent dental care treatment and residents often traveled more than 100 miles for various treatment.

Thanks to $44 million NMTCs from six CDEs, a new community health center will address those issues quicker, providing a major boost to the community.

The Lac Courte Oreilles Community Health Center will enhance existing services and add new services for the 35-year-old clinic, including preventative care, urgent care and pharmacy drive-up. With the assistance of financing from the CDEs, the Lac Courte Oreilles Community Health Center will address long wait lists, provide culturally appropriate care and respond to complex medical needs.

The health center combines a model of patient care that is patient-centered, culturally appropriate and team-based. There is an expanded effort in preventative care, a doubling of capacity and a committed, experienced Native participation.

Circle Seafoods, Inc., in Aberdeen, Washington, is launching a 29,800-square-foot floating processor and cold storage facility to support Alaskan fishermen during the salmon season. CDEs Hampton Roads Ventures, CEI Capital Management LLC and Alaska Growth Capital BIDCO, Inc. helped finance the development in a distressed, low-income community as Circle Seafoods seeks to increase the prosperity of the fishermen by injecting efficiency into old conventions.
