Roxbury is a neighborhood of Boston with significantly high and persistent unemployment.

In 2022, when the NMTC financing package closed, City Fresh Foods employed 141 people who produced and delivered approximately 15,000 meals a day, more than 3 million meals per year. The 94 Shirley Street project, which opened in June 2023, has enabled the company to take on new customers, expand production and deliveries to 30,000 meals per day, and create 49 additional jobs by the end of 2023, for a total of 190 jobs, 96% of which are full-time.

City Fresh Foods is a minority- and employee-owned. 95% of its employees are people of color and 92% live in Boston, Brockton, Chelsea and Everett. City Fresh Foods is an employer of choice in Roxbury, offering high quality jobs paying living wages with benefits, training, career path development, and opportunities for employee ownership through participation in the company’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.

With this new NMTC-financed development, the future is bright.
