Bill to Extend Alabama HTC Through 2027 Goes to Governor

Monday, May 10, 2021 - 11:45AM

Both houses of the Alabama Legislature approved a bill that would extend the state historic tax credit (HTC) for five years. The legislation is now on the desk of Gov. Kay Ivey. S.B. 281 would extend the credit through Dec. 31, 2027, with a $200 million cap for credits reserved from May 25, 2017, through the end of 2027. As introduced, the bill would have extended the sunset date of the credit through 2029. The bill will become law with Ivey’s signature or if she doesn’t veto it before Friday.

The Novogradac Historic Rehabilitation Handbook provides an overview of the HTC and includes how it interacts with state HTCs.
