BILL INTRODUCED TO INCENTIVIZE PUBLIC SCHOOL BUILDING REHABILITATION

Friday, July 20, 2012 - 7:15AM

Reps. Mike Turner, R- Ohio, and Russ Carnahan, D-Mo., yesterday introduced a bill that would enable the historic tax credit (HTC) to be used to renovate older public schools. The Rehabilitation of Public Schools Act, H.R. 6151, removes a prior-use restriction from the HTC that makes it impossible for local governments to partner with private developers on school renovations. H.R. 6151 is the companion bill to S. 1685, which was introduced in the Senate in October. The text of H.R. 6151 will be posted to the Historic Tax Credit Resource Center when it becomes available.
