Bill Introduced to Temporarily Increase Solar ITC, Residential Energy Credit
Rep. Joe Neguse, D-Colo., Thursday introduced the Solar Expansion of Distributed Generation Exponentially (Solar EDGE) Act. The bill would increase for two years the Section 48 renewable energy investment tax credit to 50 percent and the Section 25 residential energy credit applicable percentage to 50 percent for small solar systems with a nameplate capacity of less than 20 kilowatts. If enacted, the Section 48 provisions of the Solar EDGE Act would apply to solar properties that begin construction after Dec. 31, 2019. The Section 25 D provisions would apply to tax years beginning or after Dec. 31, 2019. Similar legislation was introduced by Rep. Jared Polis, D-Colo., in the last Congress, but was not enacted.
