Thursday, February 21, 2019 - 2:30PM

Ben Carson, secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), today said HUD will make it easier for builders to use Federal Housing Administration (FHA)-insured loans on low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) properties and emphasized the opportunity zones (OZ) incentive for housing. Carson, speaking to the National Association of Home Builders’ annual board of directors meeting in Las Vegas, said HUD’s Office of Multifamily Housing Programs will soon publish a notice to expand a LIHTC pilot program that encourages FHA-insured loans into the office’s new construction and substantial rehabilitation loan products. Carson also spoke about how builders can use qualified opportunity funds to help finance residential housing in OZs.
