D.C. Bill Would Make Changes to District’s LIHTC, Including Specifying Annual Cap

Wednesday, May 17, 2023 - 9:30AM

Legislation introduced in Washington, D.C., would make changes to the district’s low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) regulations. B025-0289 would add a requirement that eligible properties have at least five housing units and would change the annual cap from 25% of the federal allocation amount to $7.8 million in 2024, $8.4 million in 2025, $8.8 million in 2026, $9.3 million in 2027 and an increase of 5% annually thereafter. The legislation would also require that all LIHTC awards be made on a competitive basis.

The Novogradac Introduction to Low-Income Housing Tax Credits booklet provides an overview of the basics of the LIHTC incentive, both federal and state.
