HUD Offers Relief to Puerto Rico after Hurricane

Tuesday, September 26, 2017 - 4:15PM

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) last week announced assistance for Puerto Rico residents affected by Hurricane Irma. After President Donald Trump declared a natural disaster on the island, HUD provided immediate foreclosure relief, mortgage insurance, reallocation of existing federal funds to disaster relief and Section 108 loan guarantee assistance. HUD will also share information with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the territorial government on housing providers that may have available units, including public housing agencies and multifamily housing owners. The announcement was made before Hurricane Maria’s landfall in Puerto Rico.
