Massachusetts Extends State LIHTC, HTC Programs

Several Massachusetts tax credit programs, including the low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) and the historic tax credit (HTC), were expanded and extended effective May 31. H 4536 extended the state LIHTC through 2025 with $5 million per year added for properties that improve existing state or federally assisted housing, along with a five-year housing bond issue. The state HTC was expanded by $5 million to an annual $55 million cap; the community investment tax credit was extended to 2025 with a gradual increase for the credit cap from $6 million to $12 million; the brownfield tax credit sunset was extended from 2019 to 2024; and the housing development incentive tax credit was extended through 2024.
