MASTER LIMITED PARTNERSHIPS PARITY ACT INTRODUCED IN HOUSE

Tuesday, September 25, 2012 - 7:00am

Reps. Ted Poe, R-Texas, and Mike Thompson, D-Calif., introduced H.R. 6437, the Master Limited Partnerships Parity Act. The bill would modify the tax code to enable renewable energy investors to form master limited partnerships (MLPs), which are businesses that are taxed as partnerships but whose shares are publicly traded. Only investors in fossil fuel-based energy projects currently qualify for this structure. A companion bill, S. 3275, was introduced in the Senate in June.
