Mayors Urge Congress to Include LIHTC Provisions in Next COVID-19 Relief Bill

Monday, June 1, 2020 - 3:30pm

Sixty-seven mayors from across the nation today sent a letter to leaders of both chambers of Congress, calling for low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) provisions to be included in the next round of COVID-19 relief legislation. The letter, signed by the mayors from 28 states and Washington, D.C.–including nine of the 10 most populated cities in the nation–urges the enactment of a minimum 4 percent LIHTC rate and the lowering of the 50 percent test for bond-financed homes. The letter says that the pandemic has exacerbated an existing affordable housing crisis in the United States.
