Forty-four states and 151 local jurisdictions have created rental assistance programs in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, but much more assistance is needed, according to a report issued today by the National Low-Income Housing Coalition. “State and Local Rental Assistance Programs: Finding Solutions for a Growing Crisis” studied rental assistance programs launched since the start of the pandemic, but pointed out that the assistance is generally short-term and has varying eligibility requirements. The NLIHC calls for further assistance, highlighting the Emergency Rental Assistance and Rental Market Stabilization Act, which would provide $100 billion for emergency rental assistance for households affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
