The Rental Policy Working Group (RPWG) on December 31 released its administrative proposals for the alignment of federal affordable rental housing programs. The report, called “Federal Rental Alignment Administrative Proposals” proposes ways to reduce the cost and burden of various affordable housing programs operated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, U.S. Department of the Treasury and others. The suggestions include aligning physical inspections, income reporting, financial reporting, energy efficiency requirements, appraisals, market study standards, subsidy layering, capital needs assessments, data sharing on owner defaults and fair housing compliance enforcement.
