Sen. Cantwell Calls for Expanding LIHTC, Preserving Private Activity Bonds

Wednesday, November 8, 2017 - 3:45PM

Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., today spoke on the Senate floor in support of increasing the low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) and retaining private activity bonds in tax reform. Sen. Cantwell said that 90 percent of affordable housing built in the United States uses LIHTCs, so only by extending the credits will the affordable housing crisis be addressed. A press release from Sen. Cantwell’s office said Senate Republicans are expected to announce their tax proposal tomorrow.
