Waters, Colleagues Introduce Three Bills to Invest Billions in Housing
Rep. Maxine Waters, D-California, and several colleagues in the House of Representatives today introduced three bills that would represent a historic investment in housing, urging that the legislation be included in a budget reconciliation bill that may be considered by Congress. The Housing is Infrastructure Act of 2021 would invest more than $600 billion in housing infrastructure, including $75 billion for public housing capital needs and $150 billion for new incremental Housing Choice Vouchers. The Ending Homelessness Act of 2021 would transform the Housing Choice Voucher program into a federal entitlement that would be available to every household that qualifies. The Downpayment Toward Equity Act of 2021 would provide $100 billion toward down payments and other financial assistance for first-generation homebuyers.
The state of affordable housing legislation will be a topic of discussion at the Novogradac 2021 Affordable Housing Tax Credit and Bond Conference, Sept. 30-Oct. 1, in Nashville.
