Nine Wisconsin state Senators and 31 members of the state Assembly introduced legislation this week to increase the tax benefit for investors in qualified opportunity funds (QOFs) that hold at least 90 percent of their assets in Wisconsin opportunity zones (OZ) projects. Wisconsin already conforms to the Internal Revenue Code concerning OZs, but S.B. 440 would grant an additional 10 percent capital gains tax reduction for investors who hold their investment in a Wisconsin-centered QOF for five years and an additional 15 percent for those investors after seven years.
