Historic Tax Credits News Briefs - November 2015

The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP), in partnership with an inter-agency Steering Group (the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Council on Environmental Quality), announced Sept. 8 the release of the Unified Federal Environmental and Historic Preservation Review Guide for Federal Disaster Recovery Assistance Applicants. The guide will assist applicants (state and local agencies, Indian tribes, small business owners, individuals), comply with environmental and historic preservation (EHP) requirements when multiple agencies may be involved in funding or permitting a disaster recovery project. The guide also details the information applicants should submit to federal agencies in order to expedite the EHP review. More information is available at www.achp.gov.

The Woda Group Inc. Oct. 1 announced the Washington School was selected as a finalist for the National Association Multifamily Pillars of the Industry Award. The historic rehab in Washington Court House, Ohio, is a 42-unit, affordable-housing apartment building for seniors, opened in November 2014. The award recognizes creative development concepts, innovative financing strategies, great design and superior management and marketing in the marketplace.

The Rhode Island Division of Taxation awarded $730,000 in historic preservation tax credits to Parish House LLC for the redevelopment of the former Trinity Church Parish House in Newport, R.I. The property will be transformed into Kay Hall Lofts and will provide seven condo units. The redevelopment of the three-story Trinity Church Parish House, constructed in 1898, will include splitting the auditorium into two floors, and raising the basement floor by 2.5 feet to make room for parking. Construction is expected to be complete by November. Parish House LLC is spending $4.2 million on the redevelopment. The complete list of awards is available at www.taxcredithousing.com.
