Legislation introduced in the Montana House of Representatives Feb. 11 would create a state workforce housing tax credit that could be paired with the federal low-income housing tax credit for tax years beginning on or after Jan. 1, 2022. H.B. 397 would allow the credit to be taken over six years and for any excess credit to be carried forward a maximum of five years. The statewide cap would be 50% of the federal cap for any year, plus any unallocated credits from previous rounds. The state credit would sunset at the end of 2026.
